January 2007 MNK Update

Dear Prayer Partners,

Therefore, through Him let us continually offer up to God a sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of our lips that confess His name. Hebrews 13:15.  I want to thank you for praying for the Mandinka people and our team including the volunteers from Hunter Street during the end of December and the beginning of January. Travel to southern Senegal can be difficult especially during holiday times, but tickets and schedules are no match for our God.

We want to praise God for our faithful friends from Hunter Street. They brought two new members De De and Keri, along with Frank, Ricky, Florence, and Sherri.  Each team member had the opportunity to pray and share God’s Word in the villages in the Blue Jay area that you prayed for. We were also blessed to have a pastor, SD, from The Gambia and a believer, AN, from our town in southern Senegal to assist us in clearly sharing the Gospel message. I was so excited to get to work with a Senegalese Christian woman.

Thank you for praying over the preparations for this work. It is “fun” to see what God does with our planning. Richard had visited several villages in this area and chose three for this team to work. On Sunday, before the team was to begin on Monday in the first village, a representative of the village chief came begging us not to come and asked us to forgive them. After reading some of our scriptures, their religious teacher started stirring up trouble. One of the jobs of the village chief is to keep the peace even if it is a false peace. We received word that the women of the village were quite upset, but their opinion is of little consequence in Is. We pray that through this, the people of “BDJ” will seek the Prince of Peace.

On that Monday we went to a neighboring village of “BDJ”. This village “BN” welcomed us with a display of music and culture. After prayer walking and a late afternoon lunch the men and women separated to share from God’s Word. I have never seen women participate and answer questions like they did in this village. In the men’s discussion time, the religious leader praised the teaching that he heard.

We prayer walked and taught in two other villages “MK” and “DjT”. These villages were also welcoming. Please pray for discernment as we return to these villages. Please pray for the people of peace to have dreams that reveal the Truth of God’s Word. Please pray that God will answer the prayers that were lifted in the name of Jesus and use this to cause these villages to seek to know more of God’s Word.

Please pray for us as we continue this follow up and also prepare for two teams coming in March. We are so excited to see how God is working among the family of God to reach out to the Mandinka.

Please continue to pray for Kimberly. In just a few days she will be starting the orientation program. Please pray for her as she prepares to be away from family and becomes a part of the mission family.

Thank you for praying for the Mandinka people. Never forget that prayer is one of the most powerful “tools” that we have. Also, we thank you for your sacrificial giving to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.

If you have a question or there is some way that I can help you pray for the Mandinka people please do not hesitate to write.

Your sister in Christ,
