April 2006 MNK Update

07 Dec 2007

Dear Prayer Partners,

Greetings from Sedhiou! We are daily reminded that we serve an awesome God.  He

Alone, is worthy of our worship and praise.  I will worship toward thy holy temple, and give thanks unto thy name for thy loving kindness and for thy truth: For thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name (Psalm 138:2).  Together we long for the day that the MNK will worship and praise our Creator.

Let us thank our Heavenly Father for answered prayers. You were faithful to pray for the volunteer team from Florence, SC, thank you.  God answered our prayers for travel mercies and health.  Daily many people passed the site giving opportunities to share our reason for hope. Please continue to pray for the work that they did on the memorial to be a constant reminder of the hope that we have in Christ.  Please pray for each of the compounds that the volunteers prayed in that they will give Jesus the glory for answered prayers.

One day while the group from Florence was here, we received word that a MNK man who teaches adult literacy in several local languages became physically blind during the night, and also experienced weakness in his limbs. We stopped by his home on the way to the work site and prayed for his physical and spiritual blindness.  We have received news that his sight has been restored, and we praise God for answering the physical need, but please continue to pray for his spiritual blindness to be healed.

Please join us in praying for this partnering church from Florence.  Shortly after the volunteer team returned to SC tragedy struck one of the families from this church.  A precious teenage boy died in an accident.  His father, David, came to Senegal last year to join Richard and Chris on a prayer walk. Words are of little comfort, but prayer is the one thing that we can do to aid our brothers and sisters in Christ.

This month we turn our hearts and minds to Easter.  Even in West Africa which is predominantly M, during December many stores in the capital city decorate for Christmas.  There will not be as much hype to remind people of Easter, but usually the Jesus Film or another film presenting the Life of Jesus is shown on local television. Please pray that many people will have opportunities to see and hear the Gospel message through video, audio, and witnessing opportunities.

Richard and I would like to ask you to pray for more volunteers to come and share God’s love among the MNK and throughout West Africa. We have requests for a dental team and for an optometrist to come with a team.  These are just two ways to combine human needs with evangelism.  If your home church is interested in one of these requests or God lays something else on your heart related to the MNK please don’t hesitate to contact us.  Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest indeed is plenteous, but the laborers are few (Mat 9:37).  Also please pray for long term personnel to respond to God’s call on their lives to come and serve in West Africa.  We have a request for a unit on our team.  Please pray that the one or ones that God chooses will step out in faith.  Please use the MNK website www.mandinkapeople.com and the West Africa website www.gowestafrica.org  for information about these requests.

 Have a Blessed Easter!
